Meet the Pastor and His Family

Tim and Julie Gilliland and Family

Tim serves as Co-pastor of CooC and functions as our primary preacher & teacher. He is a graduate of West Texas State University (West Texas A&M), B.S. and Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, M.Div.

Julie serves as Co-Pastor of our church and General Manager of KEDU Radio. She is our main organizer of ministries & events for CooC as well as our primary worship leader. She attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene and is a graduate of Texas Wesleyan University, B.A. in Fort Worth.

Tim & Julie have four sons. Jacob works for Dell Computers in Austin, Texas. Andrew is finishing up his final semester at New Mexico State in Las Cruses. Isaac is attending Eastern New Mexico University here in Ruidoso and Cohen is a fourth grader at White Mountain Elementary.

A little about how we got to this point:

“Julie and I moved to these mountains in 1992 to serve as missionaries to the Mescalero Nation through the Mescalero Baptist Mission.  As a part of this calling we were seeking to reach the resort community in and around Ruidoso in unique ways.  This led to our planting a church in the Alto area while maintaining our service among the Mescalero people.  In 1997 we accepted a call to pastor the First Baptist Church of Ruidoso.  We quickly brought the beginning core of the Alto Church into FBC and started a new "contemporary" service.  Our eleven and a half years at FBC were wonderful and rewarding in many ways and we will always count many of those folks as true and lasting friends. In the summer of 2008 right about the time of the “great flood” of the Ruidoso River, we began to sense a strong calling to change - this calling from God led us to do this new thing we call: Church Out of Church.  Julie and I felt the leading of God to step "out of the boat" and into the plan God was unfolding before us. This call was an invitation by our loving Father to plant a new KIND of church in our area – a church not centered on a building but one recognizing the finished work of Jesus & His Presence with us through His Holy Spirit – seeking to be “the church” in all expressions of life wherever we are, (whether in a group our as individuals)! This new church may meet in many different places (right now at the Flying 'J' on Sunday mornings) and we know that places are necessary, but our focus is beyond the walls & restrictions of typical church structure! Our prayer as a spiritual family is that we will continue to move as the Spirit leads and impact Lincoln County / Mescalero in new and exciting ways – ever changing and always fresh - to see the kingdom of the  Lord Jesus revealed in the earth even as it is in Heaven!”
